Eye Diseases

Is a  leading cause of blindness in the United States affecting over 4 million individuals.  Because most glaucoma cases do not cause any symptoms, most patients with glaucoma are unaware that they have this blinding disease until substantial vision loss  has occurred. Early detection is essential to help preserve vision in patients with glaucoma. Glaucoma affects the optic nerve and eventually causes peripheral vision loss that could progress to blindness if left untreated.

Macular Degeneration

Is a disease that causes gradual distortion and could lead to complete loss of central detailed vision . This disease is characterized by degeneration of cells in macula,  formation of “drusen”, and/or leakage.  Although there is still no cure for Macular Degeneration a new injection called Lucentis has provided potential benefits for  patients suffering from certain types of  Macular Degeneration.  Numerous studies  show that Vitamins A, C and E including Lutein can delay the onset of Macular Degeneration.

Diabetic Retinopathy

Most patients with diabetes are unaware of the importance of annual eye exams. Diabetic patients may be more predisposed  to develop eye problems such as cataracts,  glaucoma or diabetic retinal disease that could lead to permanent vision loss  or blindness.  It is essential that patients with diabetes keep their blood glucose levels under good control and get their vision checked annually to ensure that related eye conditions can be detected and treated as early as possible.  Diabetic Retinopathy is one of the leading causes of  blindess in the United States.  Diabetes Mellitus affects the circulatory system on the retina and could cause

leakage or bleeding  from retinal vessels  leading to vision loss.
